Question: Our house is registered in my mother’s name. My mother is a pensioner. I heard that pensioners have benefits on property tax. However, my mother has been paying property tax without any benefits so far. My question is: what do we need to do to take advantage of this benefit, and how can we pay property tax at a reduced rate?

Answer: Indeed, pensioners have property tax benefits, but not in full!

According to Article 421 of the Tax Code, pensioners are exempt from taxation on property within sixty square meters.

To take advantage of this benefit, pensioners must personally submit a document confirming their right to a tax benefit (pension certificate) to the tax authorities in the area where the taxable property is located.

Therefore, if the house is in your mother’s name, she must personally visit the tax office in her area with her pension certificate to apply for the benefit.
